Patrick Weld
Patrick gained a design and business
apprenticeship with Rolls Royce. He studies a
Project Management degree at Portsmouth
University.
“The recruitment process was tough, but I liked
the assessment centre. We had to construct
something as a group and my art & DT skills
that I gained at Seaford came in handy. I’m
artistic and analytical, and the roles they offer really appeal to me. Rolls-
Royce pay for my degree and I also get a salary and a company car. I
have always loved cars and Rolls Royce have plants in Oxford, Swindon,
Munich, South Africa and Mexico, so I can move around to experience
working in diverse cultures.”
Tom Slater
Tom won an apprenticeship with Mini where
he will gain a Mechanical Engineering degree.
“Apprenticeships have an outdated image.
I really like that I can study my degree and
gain experience working in the different areas
at Mini. Mini pay for my degree, I get a salary
and a company car. I can work for them
after I finish the apprenticeship, but I am not
contractually obliged to stay on with them. It was a tough interview
process but the Sixth Form team helped mentor me through it and
supported me. I’m really grateful to the team for their support.”
Hugo Wilson
Hugo Wilson gained an apprenticeship as a
Racehorse Trainer at the British Racing School
in Newmarket.
“I always loved working with horses and I
followed my dream to head into racehorse
training. An apprenticeship was the right
route for me after Seaford and my teachers
supported my dreams.”
Dougal Artingstall
Dougal studies at the prestigious
Leith’s Cookery School in London.
Dougal looked at the university
route but decided to follow his
passion into the culinary world.
“I had a lot of support from Seaford
staff and my parents to make the
decision not to go to university. I
was an academic student and I
always thought I’d go to university
but when it came to it, I just didn’t
think it was for me. Leith’s has
fantastic links with lots of top
chefs and restaurants, and I gain
experience in top restaurants in
London on the course.
I did an apprenticeship with a
butcher in Pulborough during my
time at Seaford and this led to a
holiday and Saturday job in a pie
shop. This experience, along with
epic cooking sessions with my dad
at home at the weekends and my
Food Tech BTEC, has fuelled my
passion to become a chef.”
“I plan to pursue my polo career as far as I
can. I also plan to study Sport Psychology at
Loughborough University in the future”
