GCSE Textile Design
Textile Design is primarily concerned with creating and working with fabrics. The
subject can lead to highly creative outcomes in an exciting range of different
areas such as fashion, accessories, home furnishings or artistic artefacts.
Fabrics are a vital part of our world and are all around us all the time. In a
modern, media-driven age, we still have a real need for fabrics and clothing that
is aesthetically pleasing. This subject aims to give students the knowledge and
determination to make their own creative statement.
The course gives students the opportunity to learn how to work with sewing
machines and how to use them as a constructional and decorative tool used to
create artistic media. The course also develops students’ presentational abilities
and teaches how to follow a design process to fruition.
The GCSE course offers students the exciting opportunity to work on a range
of different creative projects that focus on very different aspects of this creative
subject. The later stages of the course also allow students to work with more
autonomy and specialise in their own area of interest allowing a real growth of
creative individuality.
