GCSE Dance
GCSE Dance is creative, exciting and full of performance opportunities. Students will work collaboratively to develop their dance skills by studying different
dance styles including: jazz, contemporary, ballet and street. Students will have the opportunity to participate in the Annual Dance Showcase, as well as other performance opportunities in and out of Seaford.
Students will develop and create dances for a range of purposes and in response to different stimuli. They will also have the opportunity to see live professional works, developing the ability to analyse, evaluate and appreciate dance. GCSE Dance will widen their knowledge and understanding of the dance industry and open their eyes to the many job opportunities and pathways available.
Course Outline:
This course consists of 3 components as listed below:
1. Performance(30%of the course, internally marked and externally moderated)
• Set phrases through a solo performance (approximately one minute in duration 15 marks)
• Duet/trio performance (three and a half minutes in duration 25 marks)
2. Choreography (30% of the course, internally marked and externally moderated)
• Solo or group choreography–asolo (two to two and a half minutes) or a group dance for two to five dancers (three to three and a half minutes 40 marks)
3. Dance appreciation (40% of the course, written examination: 1 hour 30 minutes)
• Knowledge and understanding of choreographic processes and performing skills
• Critical appreciation of own work
• Critical appreciation of professional works
• Questions based on students’ own practice in performance and choreography and the GCSE Dance anthology
