Lentamente, empezamos a traducir nuestros mapas y envoltorios digitales en mundos virtuales y portales dentro de ellos, para que nuestros visitantes puedan ir de mundo en mundo, de habitación en habitación, cruzando territorios y paisajes sonoros.
Los asistentes a nuestra exposición virtual pueden ver y hablar con otros visitantes de la exposición desde sus diferentes localizaciones mientras están dentro de la obra.
Nos encontramos en un espacio que está fuera de una sola zona horaria o limitación geográfica. Con nuestro equipo creativo navegando por zonas horarias entre Nueva York, Nueva Zelanda y Chile, uno de los regalos de la pandemia es la capacidad de estar en casa en el momento adecuado para cada uno. Este trabajo, esta colaboración, este proyecto, no existiría si no fuera por el alcance de esta pandemia mundial de COVID y las limitaciones que nos ha planteado.
Trabajamos desde la posición de que cuando nuestras fronteras tienen que cerrarse para proteger a las personas vulnerables, debido a una emergencia de salud pública, las prácticas artísticas pueden seguir facilitando la apertura, el cruce y el viaje.
¿Podría nuestro proyecto, de alguna manera, permitir la reimaginación de mundos y el cuestionamiento de los supuestos construidos localmente?
Las colaboraciones internacionales necesitan una facilitación dedicada y activa, para crear puentes a través de las distancias en ausencia de la confianza que puede establecerse rápidamente cuando los colaboradores están juntos en una habitación. ¿Cómo podemos inventar las soluciones y los saltos de fe
que pueden apoyar otros tipos de viaje (imaginativos, poéticos) en ausencia de un viaje literal?
Slowly, we begin translating our
digital maps and envelopes into
virtual worlds, and portals within them so our visitors can drift world to world, room to room, crossing territories and soundscapes.
Visitors to our virtual exhibition are able to see and talk with others visiting the exhibition from their different locations while inside the work.
We meet in a space that is outside a single time zone or geographic limitation. With our creative team navigating time zones between New York, Aotearoa NZ and Chile, one of
the gifts of the pandemic is the ability be at home at the right time for each other. This work, this collaboration, this project, wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for the reach of this global COVID pandemic and the constraints it has presented us with.
We work from the position that when our borders need to closed in order to protect vulnerable people, due to public health emergency, artistic practices can continue to facilitate opening, crossing and journeying.
Could our project, in some small way, allow the re-imagining of worlds and the questioning of locally constructed assumptions?
International collaborations need
dedicated, active facilitation, to create bridges across distances in the absence of the trust that can quickly be established when collaborators are in a room together. How
do we invent the work-arounds and leaps of faith which can support other kinds of travel (imaginative, poetic) in the absence of literal travel?
