                                       “Hi-Torque” Axles
DRAG RACING
MWE forged axles are heavy-duty "hi-torque"
versions, custom built with large bearing
diameters and tapered shafts for increased
torsional capacity. Axles are available in any
length, spline count, and bearing combination with choice of bolt pattern and 1/2" or 5/8" tapped stud holes. Dual bolt pattern axles are available at extra cost. Flange weight reduction options include lightening holes or pocket milling (which reduces overall weight). Gun drilled axles have 11/16" or 7/8" bores to lighten the axle. Gun drilled Superlight or Ultimate axles are recommended for lightweight race cars. Specify measurements and bolt circle when ordering. Contact salesperson for further ordering information.
AXLE ORDERING INFORMATION
Axles for an existing hous-
ing: Measure the distance
between the outside of
both housing flanges (A)
(backing plate attachment
point). Not all pinions are
centered, so also measure
the distance from the
housing flange to the center of the pinion (or U-joint) on both driver and passenger side (B and C).
A. Housing flange to housing flange
B. Driver side housing flange to pinion center
C. Passenger side housing flange to pinion center D. Axle flange to axle flange
E. Axle flange (driver side) to pinion center
F. Axle flange (passenger side) to pinion center
Drag Race Wheel Stud Kits
Special wheel stud kits are recom-
mended for drag racing and aftermar-
ket wheel applications. Studs have
11/16" shoulders and are used in conjunction with open-end flanged lug nuts and aluminum washers to hold wheels securely. Kits include each of 10 studs, jam nuts, washers, and standard lug nuts. See tech tip to the right to determine proper dimension for your application.

Selecting The Proper Stud and Washer to Meet IHRA/NHRA Rules
The most important consider-
ation when selecting the proper
stud is that the driving portion of
the stud is fully engaged into the
wheel. The “C” dimension of the
drive stud needs to be slightly
greater than the combined thick-
ness of the brake adapter/drum and the thickness of the wheel, while the washer thickness should be greater than the shoulder extending past the wheel. Specify wheel and brake hat thickness when ordering.
