SPOTLIGHTING THE INEQUITIES
In partnership with Advance Ohio, ideastream established a content initiative to produce a series and coinciding public forum called Cleveland Connects: Justice for All. The program focused on the inequities inherent in the criminal justice system. As part of the campaign, forums with law students, social workers, lawyers and municipal judges were conducted. Participants discussed the disproportionate impact court nes, fees and the bail system have on Cleveland’s impoverished residents. Content was distributed on WVIZ/PBS, 90.3 WCPN ideastream and related web and social media platforms.

“I always say this isn’t just my history...this
is our history. This is American history,” said Cleveland resident Carol Malone [pictured]. She and her family witnessed a piece of their history when University of Virginia of cials dedicated a building in honor of their ancestor and former slave, Peyton Skipwith. More than 200 years ago, Skipwith made signi cant contributions to the university and helped cut stone to build structures throughout the campus. While the dedication of Skipwith Hall was one way the university addressed the role of slavery at the institution, it was also a powerful way for a Cleveland family to learn more about its past. The WVIZ/PBS ideastream Facebook post about the story generated 13,596 views and reached 30,977 people.
