Why Are We Always Playing Catch-Up?
Do you ever feel like you are playing a game of catch-up? I always try to plan ahead, and then ‘life’ gets in the way. Every year I promise myself to plant tulip bulbs in the fall, and then next thing you know, it’s already December! And then the following year I promise myself again I’ll plant and invariably, well, you know the rest.
Is it procrastination? Being too busy? Or do things fall to the bottom of the list because they aren’t priorities. But even if they aren’t ‘priorities’ this minute, some things are important and will need to be addressed.
So where am I heading with this? Many of us, as we age, toy with the idea of changing our living space. We know as the years go by that we are adjusting and maneuvering sometimes to put off a decision we don’t want to act on, but we know we have to make.
Some of my friends live in homes that are too large, with significant and costly maintenance. And some have health issues which keep them from using portions of their home. What gets in the way? Life, of course, a fear of change, or just feeling overwhelmed. Next thing you know a year goes by, and the situation may be getting more urgent, moving up the priority chain.
COVID-19 hasn’t helped either. So many of us are finding ways to cope just day to day. We dare not plan for even next week. But time marches on and before being ‘forced’ into a decision, it may be better to think about what one needs to do despite COVID-19 to meet one’s needs and lead a better quality of life.
COVID-19 has made people feel more isolated than ever. Friends and family who used to come visit cannot.
Going out for concerts and meals is not an option right now.
I am a Toronto enthusiast and full-time Realtor for the GTA and surrounding areas with over 25 years of experience.
And thinking about a major life transition just seems out of the question. But I encourage you to begin to think about making a change before you must.
Years ago, when someone suggested condo living, the response was often – “I don’t want to live in a box!”. Nowadays, condo living is very different. In addition to pools and gyms, many have social amenities like book and other types of social clubs where people with similar interests come together. So really it is more like a community with manageable space to age in place.
Virtual Art Tours – to Enjoy at Home!
Even during COVID-19, there are museums to explore!
