The Capitol Theatre located at Yonge and Castlefield was purchased by the Madison Group. The theatre first opened in 1918 and was the place to go for vaudeville shows and silent films. In 1988, a $2M renovation revitalized the movie theatre into a special events venue while retaining most of its historical charm. In 2015, the block was sold, and a proposal made to ‘reimagine’ the site as a 14-storey condominium development while keeping the historical façade intact.
There are over a dozen historical sites currently being reimagined as condominiums including Bloor Collegiate. Toronto’s infamous Filmores Hotel and Strip Club recently sold to a developer for $31.5M.

Perhaps it starts with CHOICES....
Every new year, many of us promise ourselves to do better - to eat better, to work out more (or at all), to improve our overall health. And building on that awareness, we begin to think more about what we are eating, what our food contains and even where it comes from. From our own health, we start to look around at the health of our communities and yes, even our planet.
It all comes down to the choices we make. What to eat, what to use and reuse and even where we live. Eco-friendly and sustainable are the words and concepts of the day – and of the future.
Litter and single use plastic are having a huge negative impact on our environment. Reusing plastic bags and thinking twice about using straws and other items, such as packaging peanuts, which take hundreds of years to decompose, are relatively easy changes we can all make.
How does this play out in Real Estate?
Choosing appliances which are energy efficient and toilets that consume as little water as possible save money and help the environment. Consider using green or eco-friendly materials when building, renovating and even decorating! Many great choices are out there.
Transportation is another consideration when choosing a home and looking to minimize one’s carbon footprint. Some who move from a house to a condo, for instance, decide to forego having a car. Or, a move may mean a shorter commute to important destinations like work and shopping, saving time and money too.
