Colour Schemes
For This THoliday Season
he holidays are the most magical time of the year, and from a decorating perspective, it’s one of my favourite seasons. With parties planned, not to mention the
wicked weather ahead, there’s naturally a heightened focus on our interiors at this time of year. Ensure yours is ready to welcome guests and give you “the feels.” From old- fashioned charms to newfangled finds, there are three trending colour schemes to try this season, to make your home and holidays jolly and bright.
Keen on Green
The year began with this trending colour (it was in fact chosen as the 2022 Color of the Year by a number of leading paint brands), so it’s only fitting that this colour brings the year to a close. Festive fares are embracing this gentle, refreshing colour trend, which is a far cry from the jewel- toned Emerald and Kelly greens that are typical of the season, especially when paired with red (more on this, below). This year’s trending green makes its festive entrance as soft sage, warm moss and barely-there pastels. Pair it with neutral tones – either as your dominant colour or as an accent – for a fresh take on tradition.
Red & Green
Nostalgia has always been one of my favourite things about the holidays, and I’m not alone. So much so, that Christmas Past is making a big comeback as we look to holiday decorating trends ahead. The return of the classic red-and- green colour combination is one of them, with touches of gold woven in, for a little elegance and opulence. The great thing about this trend is that it’s a mainstay, and an investment that can be repurposed from year to year.
TIP: When decorating with the colour green, think beyond the paint swatch. Plants can bring some much-needed colour, vibrancy and life to what can feel like a very long, very dark season. Evergreens are the popular choice, for

obvious reasons, commonly making their appearance as wreaths, garlands and swags. But try thinking beyond the pine needles, and layer in a variety of leafy and floral plants into your home.
Bright White
White is another festive colour choice with great staying power. It’s ultra versatile, takes its inspiration from the outdoors, which is neutral and truly timeless. This means that a lot of your seasonal décor can live on (toned down, of course), once the holidays have come and gone. Another bonus about this colour trend is that it goes with everything, making it complementary to virtually any existing aesthetic.
TRY: The “winter white” motif pairs beautifully with another favourite seasonal themed – the winter warm-up. Layer in some cozy pillows and throws, light the fireplace and maybe throw in a Hot Toddy for good measure.
Sparkle & Shine
Silver and Gold is more than just a Christmas song – it’s also a colour scheme to dress up your digs for the festive season. This trend can go one of two ways – low key, with some light touches of silver or gold, here and there; or high-volume,
