SPRING COLLEGE COMMITS
Dave is a three-sport athlete for Latin, competing in football, wrestling, and baseball. His love for sports is innate, and he grew up wanting to try them all. Dave began playing baseball when he was five and although he didn’t realize it at that age, he would grow to love the duality of playing a team sport that requires a high level of individual performance. Dave also says that “In the sport of baseball, you fail more than you succeed, and I love how that aspect of it requires you as a player to show mental toughness and grit.” Dave has certainly developed mental toughness and grit. When he was considering his options for next year, Dave was drawn to a beautiful campus and inviting community in Williamstown, Massachusetts. He is looking forward to not only receiving a great education, but also competing in the New England Small College Athletic Conference. We look forward to following his ongoing baseball career as Dave heads to Williams College in the fall. Congratulations Dave!
Max was introduced to baseball when he was four years old by his dad, and he says he instantly fell in love with it. He loves that it feels like an individual sport when you are hitting but requires the entire team to do what’s necessary to score runs – and that it teaches you that failures are just a part of the path to success. Max brings
a high baseball IQ to Latin’s program which has been a tremendous asset. He challenges his coaches to be attentive to the small details of the game and acts as another coach on the field. As part of his college search, Max was introduced to a small school of about 2,500 students in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. He likes the small teach- er-to-student ratio, which provides the opportunity to develop relationships with his professors – something he feels is key to succeeding in the classroom. Max aspires to be a doctor someday, and Dickinson students have a very high rate of medical school acceptance. When he’s not studying, Max will continue to pursue the sport he loves as part of the Centennial Conference with the Red Devils of Dickinson College. Congratulations Max!
What began as a recreational activity for five-year-old Levani Tutovani has turned into fuel for his competitive fire. A coach spotted talent in Levani early on, and he began swimming competitively when he was seven. Always an active and energetic kid, he found an outlet in competition that he still finds exciting today. Levani is a sprinter, and he channels all his energy into swimming short events very, very fast. That speed has been a huge asset for the Hawks. In his three years at CLS, Levani has scored 103 individual points and contributed to 234 relay points towards the boys’ swimming team’s three consecutive state championships. His name has been on the Latin record board since his sophomore year, and he has emerged as an emotional leader with his ability to fuel the team’s energy while remaining cool under pressure. Levani has only lived in Charlotte for five years, but he has grown to love it. His college search introduced him to a lot of different schools, including one he didn’t know that much about that was practically in his backyard. He was drawn to the smaller size of the school, the prepared- ness of students when they graduate, and – of course – to the opportunity to be part of a program that has won seven consecutive Division II national championships. We can’t wait to watch how high Levani will soar as a mem- ber of the Royals of Queens University. Congratulations Levani!
Jayleln started playing basketball when he was five years old through a shared love of the sport with his dad. He was drawn to the speed of the game and finds the constant state of play fun. He’s also a competitive person and finds battling it out on the court to be a stress reliever. As a Hawk, Jaylen led the team from the point guard posi- tion and frequently made big plays that capitalized on his natural athleticism and his hard work to further develop his strength and agility. Jaylen loves being part of a team, and that was a factor in his college search. He was hoping to find a small, close-knit community, and he didn’t have to go far to find it. Just down the road, Jaylen dis- covered a bucolic college setting where he can pursue his academic goals and continue to compete athletically. He’ll become a Crusader next year as he heads to Belmont Abbey College in the fall. Congratulations Jaylen!
