Background
In 2014, Cone Health merged with Alamance Regional Medical Center (ARMC). The Cone network encompasses six hospitals and dozens of practices across a ten county region while employing
over 11,000 individuals. ARMC is a smaller, community hospital with
a reputation for offering great patient care and possessing highly competent clinical and administrative staff. The joining of a big system with a smaller system posed some challenges from the technology integration standpoint in the imaging arena, including ease of transition and cost.
As an organization specializing in Imaging IT, Canopy Partners possesses deep knowledge of the latest technology and integration methods. The ARMC merger with Cone Health opened up new opportunities for communication and access almost overnight by providing a single platform PACS and Voice Recognition coupled with advanced data analytics, systems integration, 24/7 support, and cutting-edge utilization management software.
Lowering Costs and Improving Patient Care with Integrated Technologies
Changing technologies, upgrades, and mergers often result in multiple vendors and software operating within one healthcare
system or firm. Too many disparate components result in increased inefficiencies, rate of errors, and costs. Preston Hammock, President
of ARMC, noted, “Transitions involve a lot of change management. Canopy Partners helped us update processes and keep pace with the rapidly changing world of technology. It freed me to spend time on the many other things that I needed to handle.”
ARMC no longer needed to consider the enormous capital required to convert their PACS and voice recognition platforms to mesh with Cone Health. From an imaging standpoint, Canopy enabled ARMC
to integrate everything over a short period with initial set-up costs spread out over a number of years, all under one contract versus many contracts.
Canopy has harnessed the expertise and technology to allow multiple systems to reside under existing infrastructure. This makes it possible for physicians and technicians to continue working in the same fashion while accessing numerous benefits. Hospitals and practices contribute to Canopy Partners’ Regional Imaging Timeline for the sake of increased levels of patient care and overall health care efficiency.
“WHEN SYSTEMS COM- BINE, THE REAL WORK
IS IN PUTTING THE TWO WORLDS TOGETHER. MANY SPEND YEARS AND WASTE MILLIONS MAKING IT HAPPEN; AND IN THE END SOME JUST QUIT. WE AIM TO ENSURE NEITHER OCCURS IN THE IMAGING ARENA.”
