BOYS BASKETBALL RECAP
VARSITY BASKETBALL
The varsity boys’ basketball team finished with their best record in over 15 years (23-4). A second-place finish in Atlanta at the St. Pius X Christmas Classic was one of many highlights of the season. The Hawks lost in the championship game of the tourney to Christian Broth- ers (TN) in a thrilling, triple OT game. Christian Brothers finished their season 28-0 and ranked #16 in the nation, according to MaxPreps. The Hawks’ near perfect regular season earned them the #4 seed for the NCISAA Tournament and a bye for the first two rounds of play. As the higher seed, Charlotte Latin hosted Covenant Day in the quarterfinal and defeated the Lions 58-43. Next up, the Hawks faced top-seeded Carmel Christian in the semifinal, in front of an electric sold-out crowd. Unfortunately, after a few lead changes late in the fourth, Carmel Christian pulled away at the end on the free throw line and the Hawks fell 44-54. Junior Ned Hull led the Hawks in scoring this year, averaging 15 ppg and earning All-State and 1st Team All-Conference honors. Senior Jaylen Jones also received recognition as 2nd Team All-Conference. Our group of six seniors will be missed, as they have had the most successful run in the past 15 years.
JUNIOR VARSITY BASKETBALL
The JV team wrapped up a successful season finishing with a record of 13-5. The team finished with a home record of 10-1 and a confer- ence record of 7-3. The contributions for the success of this team came from a mix of sophomores and freshmen. They played hard, they played smart and they played together.
8th GRADE BASKETBALL
This year for 8th grade basketball was a great learning year for our student-athletes. Each and every game the Hawks improved and showed that they can compete in this very talented league. Despite going 1-10, our record did not reflect the strides we made in practice and in games. Towards the end of the season, we were playing our best basketball and then COVID struck. We had almost every athlete out due to COVID and we canceled the rest of the season. Everyone on the team made tremendous strides throughout the season and the coaches cannot wait to see how the team progresses over the next couple of years!
7th GRADE BASKETBALL
The 7th grade boys’ basketball team had a fantastic season finishing with a record of 12-1. This group is one of the most talented groups to come through in a long time. They have a high basketball IQ, which translates to good things on the court. One of the most impressive things was how many different players led in scoring throughout the season. Their average margin of victory was 26 points.
