The 2021 Hawkspy Awards were presented to senior athletes and coaches on a beautiful evening in Patten Stadium. For the second consecutive year, the Booster Club’s signature event required a new approach and creative thinking to celebrate CLS athletics achievements in a safe, but fun, way. Planning began in January to create a pre-recorded awards show that seniors could watch together, in person, in a drive-in movie atmo- sphere. Eventually, the live audience was expanded to include senior parents and coaches, with the rest of the Latin communi- ty invited to watch the event at the same time from the comfort of their homes.
With an ‘80s movie theme, seniors were encouraged to dress up as an ‘80s character and given the opportunity to win a prize. Marshall Hanson’s take on Cousin Eddie from National Lam- poon’s Christmas Vacation and William McCabe’s slightly ‘70s disco look earned them Chick-Fil-A gift cards from the judges. Coaches Daniel Cooke, Jeff Buseick, and Drew Dayton were also awarded for their originality as the Weekend at Bernie’s trio.
