BOYS BASKETBALL RECAP
VARSITY BASKETBALL
The Hawks tied for the CISAA Conference Championship for the first time since the 2007-2008 season, finishing with a 16-5 record. Entering the NCISAA tournament as the #2 seed in the West Region of the 4-A division, they defeated the Warriors 55-44. Unfortunately, the season ended in the quarterfinal round. Despite the loss, senior Graham Calton scored a career high 35 points and led the Hawks in scoring this year, averaging 20 ppg and earning All-State and 1st Team All-Conference honors. Senior Chase Montgomery also received recognition as 2nd Team All-Conference.
JUNIOR VARSITY BASKETBALL
The JV team had a successful season considering the team had numerous injuries and a two-week shutdown as a result of Covid protocols. The team started to show some consistency at the end of the season, winning the last 5 out of 6 games and finishing with an overall record of 9-6.
8TH GRADE BASKETBALL
The 8th grade boys basketball team completed a season like no other in December. The team finished 0-8, but the Hawks showed tremendous growth and improvement during the season as their second games against teams were consistently much more competitive than their first. The team dealt with injury and illness throughout the season and struggled to find a rhythm - never playing a game with every player and coach present.
7TH GRADE BASKETBALL
The 7th grade boys basketball team finished the season 7-2. The season started fast with only one practice before we jumped into competition. The Hawks were off to a great start with a buzzer-beater from Til Wagner to win their first game at Cannon. The Hawks didn’t look back as they continued to improve despite a shortened season and a lack of practice time. Their only two losses came against a strong Charlotte Christian team.
SENIOR NIGHT BASKETBALL
“Basketball is a beautiful game when the five players on the court play with one heartbeat.”
