GIRLS BASKETBALL RECAP
VARSITY BASKETBALL
The varsity girls finished the season with an overall record of 7-13 and a CISAA conference record of 3-7. The Hawks earned the #5 seed in the NCISAA state tournament but fell just three points short against Charlotte Christian (#4) in a hard-fought game. The team faced and overcame many challenges; from navigating school and athletics during a pandemic, training and competing in masks, creating new relationships and/or restoring old ones,
to overcoming pauses and scheduling uncertainty. Through it all they worked hard, never complained, worked together, enjoyed each other, and competed.
JUNIOR VARSITY BASKETBALL
With all of the off-court challenges they had to deal with this season, this group rose to the occasion. A veteran group of players led by captains Lizzie Griesser, Aven Cutter, and Jane Brownlow helped guide the Hawks to a tie for second place in conference with their trademark full court press. The JV Lady Hawks have a bright future in store for the program with a talented freshman and sophomore class.
8TH GRADE BASKETBALL
The team followed their successful 7th grade year with another winning season as 8th graders. This group had high expectations for themselves, but in many ways, this season was more successful given the nature of the challenges that they faced. Throughout it all, this group stayed positive and energetic, and supported each other along the way. They are, without question, an important part of Latin’s bright girls basketball future.
7TH GRADE BASKETBALL
7th grade girls finished the season with a 7-0 record. With a deep 16-player roster, the Hawks learned to work together and give their all while keeping an active rotation. The team’s tenacity on defense and overall intensity served them well against their oppo- nents. Two of the more exciting games were a victory over a talented Providence Day team and an overtime win against Holy Trinity on their home court.
