SWIMMING RECAP
VARSITY SWIM
Varsity swimming approached this season with the attitude that each practice, every meet, and any opportunity to be together was a gift. It was odd for the girls and boys to compete separately in the championship meet, but the girls’ team set the stage with incredible energy, some lights-out swims and a 4th place finish in spite of having only 9 competitors. The boys’ team kept the momen- tum going, opening with a winning relay that was the first of three NCISAA record-breaking swims, and ultimately claiming their 17th NCISAA title. The culmination of the season was an online celebration that included a special tribute to Coach Collins, a.k.a. Doc, as he prepares to retire after 50 years of teaching at Latin, and 32 years of coaching the swimmers. It was a challenging, but incredibly special year.
MIDDLE SCHOOL SWIM
This was an amazing season for the middle school swim team! Despite the challenges and uncertain- ties of competing during the pandemic, our swim- mers rose above any inconveniences and made the best of the time we had together. Change was the norm this year; people had to swim events they were not used to swimming, entries were often adjusted at the last minute, meets were cancelled or postponed, but they rose to every challenge, and did so with smiles on their faces. They trained hard, honed their skills, and experi- enced large drops in times.
