THE MIDCOUNTIES CO-OPERATIVE and The Outward Bound Trust
have been working in partnership to deliver the Green Pioneers programme since 2013.
The Green Pioneers programme
came about as a result of the Society
talking to The Outward Bound
Trust, whose Patron is The Duke of
Edinburgh, to nd a programme
which would really engage young
people to live sustainable lives. To
date over 150 students from our
Partner Schools have participated
in the week long residential
course in Aberdovey, Wales. The
programme forms part of the Society’s
wider Developing Young People
programme which engaged over 9,000
young people from 50 partners schools in Co-operative activity in 2016. Midcounties is the largest independent Co-operative Society in the UK and operates businesses in food, travel, healthcare, childcare, funeralcare, energy, Post O ces and exible bene ts.
The company develops and organises conferences for the global metals industry. Now in its 16th year, Metal Events Ltd holds events across the world, with some attracting upwards of 300 attendees, and has developed a niche in events focused on materials used in green technologies, including rare earths, hi-tech minerals, specialty alloys, base and minor metals.
Jill Fitzgibbon (left) and Rachel Carnac (right) prepare for their rare earths conference in Singapore in 2014.
Metal Events Ltd also arranges
events on behalf of associations and has excelled in helping these organisations to grow their conference attendance numbers.
Its conferences are truly international, attracting a large number of senior executives representing the world’s major metals industry companies as well as many end-users, including global blue chip suppliers.
Since winning the Queen’s Award in 2013, Metal Events Ltd has expanded its business in China and held its rst event in Shenzhen in 2016.
Based in London, the company is owned and managed by the original founders Jill Fitzgibbon and Rachel Carnac.
