MSA ENGINEERING SYSTEMS are proud to have won their second Queen’s Award for Innovation, for the development of wire laying systems used for producing electrofusion ttings.
Electrofusion ttings
join thermoplastic pipes
typically used in water
and gas applications. The
 tting has an embedded
wire heating coil which is energised to melt (fuse) the plastic of the pipes and tting together.
The innovation is a system for wire laying directly into curved surfaces creating saddle ttings. The same principle can be used to manufacture large diameter ttings, at pads, and specialist smaller ttings previously not possible. Due to the sales of the innovation MSA’s turnover has increased by 92% over the past two years.
MSA has gained a worldwide reputation for superior quality and highly exible wire laying systems for the production of electrofusion ttings, which are protected by International Patents.

  MASTAPLASTA set out
to encourage people to make-do-and-mend, recycle and reduce waste. Now it has become the smallest company to receive the 2017 Queen’s Award for Enterprise for both Innovation and International Trade.
“It’s an achievement and honour we never anticipated,” said Stephan Pavlou, who created MastaPlasta with co-director Donna Clarke.
Stephan Pavlou and Donna Clarke, co-directors of MastaPlasta.
MastaPlastas are “Band-Aids” for leather and vinyl – patented self-adhesive repair patches that work on sofas, bags, jackets, saddlery, car seats. They are
a simple, cost-e ective solution to rips, holes and burns. MastaPlastas can
be spotted discreetly covering damage in hotels, businesses, cinemas, plus homes and vehicles worldwide.
Donna Clarke said: “We gave ourselves a brief to make a repair product that was easy to use and could actually make something look better than new. These awards are the greatest measure of our success.” MastaPlasta’s range of embossed designs, includes, of course, a crown.

Mediplus Ltd
MEDIPLUS is delighted to announce that it has been awarded a Queen’s Award for Enterprise, the UK’s most prestigious business accolade, for its pioneering catheter insertion kit dubbed
“a GPS for the bladder.”
The High Wycombe healthcare manufacturer was presented with the award, under the Innovation category for its S-CathTM System; a breakthrough technology that prevents injuries from occurring.
The S-CathTM System uses the Seldinger technique to facilitate a one tract entry into the bladder enabling clinicians to perform a safer introduction of a suprapubic catheter.
The innovative device, which was designed hand in hand with clinicians, o ers a more controlled, accurate and precise placement into the bladder.
Currently, a suprapubic catheterisation is performed in an operating theatre under general anaesthetic with clinicians using a “blind” percutaneous trocar puncture to gain entry into the bladder.
Instead the S-CathTM System locates the bladder with a patented safety guide wire, improving placement and guarantees insertion of the trocar along the anesthetised track.
This technique also o ers a wide range of patient bene ts such as minimal trauma and tissue damage as less pressure is needed to insert the dilator. It

simultaneously raising the standard of patient care and safety.
“Many clinicians say it o ers them greater con dence in inserting the trocar into the bladder describing it as a GPS for the bladder. It also o ers UK hospitals huge savings in terms of money, time and resources.”
The S-CathTM System has been used in the UK for six years. During this time, the UK National Institute for Clinical Excellence and The British Association of Urological Surgeons have both published guidelines encouraging the adoption of S-CathTM System into routine care.

is also more comfortable and less stressful for the clinician to perform, as it provides them with a higher degree of control and accurate placement.
For patients, it means they only need to attend a 30-minute appointment slot in clinic, reducing treatment time from 2.3 days to 22 minutes. It also decreases the risks associated with standard “blind” entry methods which have 19%* risk of complications and 1.9% risk of mortality in the UK alone.
Speaking about the award Emma Gray, Managing Director, said: “We are delighted to win such a prestigious award for our contribution to urology. The S CathTM System is a breakthrough solution
that reduces the risk of harm to patients, while
