The Aztecs
In 1200 A.D. a hunter tribe migrated into the Valley of Mexico (now know as Mexico City). They were called The Aztecs.
The legend says that the Aztecs where looking for a sign, which was an eagle on a cactus with a snake in its mouth, that meant they should settle there. This place was called Tenochtitlan.
The Aztecs were very smart people. They built bridges,
canals, created floating gardens, and had their own agricultural system.
They are also famous for their huge pyramids in honor of their gods, like the God of Corn, Rain, and the most important, the Sun God.
You would be happy to know that all Aztec children had to go to school. It was mandatory. Girls had to learn to be good wives
and mothers. Boys had to learn to be warriors, but
some were also taught religion, history, and writing.
With time, the Aztecs built a great empire.
