The Solar System
What is the Solar System?
The Solar System consists of the Sun and eight planets that orbit around it. In addition to planets, the Solar System also has moons, comets, asteroids, minor planets, dust, and gas.
The Sun is the center of the Solar System.
Our Solar System is part of a galaxy known as the Milky Way.
Some astronomers believe the Solar System was formed 4.5 billion years ago. Imagine Earth without the Sun. We would not have beautiful sunny days; our days would be dark, gloomy, sad, and very, very cold!
