3. Subject Verb Agreement
• The principle behind subject verb agreement means that a singular subject should go with a singular verb and a plural subject should
• go with a plural verb.
• Remember the subject will determine the verb.
Verbs are not nouns; you do not add an “s” to form their plural. Read the sentence below:
Daniel take the bow in his hands. The subject in this sentence is: Daniel
The verb is: take
What is wrong with this sentence?
Daniel is singular and take is plural.
The correct way to write this sentence is:
Daniel takes the bow in his hands.
In this case the subject and the verb agree.
