4. Extension to History
Native Americans in the United States
Native Americans are the people who first lived in North America, even before Europeans arrived. Most anthropologists believe that they were descendants of immigrants from Siberia that got to what is now known as America through the Bering Strait around 12,000 years ago.
Do you know where Siberia is
located? Siberia is located in Russia,
and scholars believed they cross to
the United States across the Bering Strait to Alaska.
Do you know why people use to call them Indians? This was because Christopher Columbus thought he had arrived to the Indies in Asia.
In the story you just read; Daniel Boone is fascinated by all the things the Indian boy does, he even believes Indian boys have more fun; one of the reasons for this is because Native Americans were very close to nature, they had an enormous respect for the land.
They were very skillful in using all the natural resources they had; Native Americans were excellent fishermen, farmers, and hunters. There were many tribes, but they all had something in common; they were people that believed in respect of the land and nature, it was the core of who they were, they saw nature as a gift of the gods. Even though they lived off the land, they only used what was extremely necessary. Their most important food was corn.
