Homographs
Therefore, Homographs are words spelled the same, but have different meaning.
Examples:
The word homograph also comes from the Greek root HOMO which means “same” and from the world GRAPH which means “write”.
Close: To shut down. Please close the door. Close: To be near. Don´t stand so close to me.
Ball: Round object. I want to play with my ball outside.
Ball: A formal dance. My sister got a new dress to go to the ball.
Bark: The sound a dog makes. I couldn´t sleep last night because my neighbor´s dog loves to bark.
Bark: The covering of a tree. In Science class we studied the layer of the tree called bark.
Fly: A flying insect. That fly is really annoying.
Fly: The act of moving through the air. I have to confess, I am afraid to fly.
Left: Opposite of right. Don’t turn right, turn left.
Left: Past of leave. He left without saying good bye.
Rare: Not cooked. I like to eat my meat almost rare.
Rare: Unusual. It is rare to see that animal in this area, we usually see different ones.
