Adjectives A, An and The
• The words a, an, and the are special adjectives. They are called articles.
Examples:
The man loved his wife deeply. They had a wonderful daughter.
An old mirror made her very happy.
• Use the before a singular noun to refer to a specific or particular noun.
• You can also use the with plural nouns.
Examples: The mirror (singular noun) The mirrors (plural noun)
• Use a when the next word starts with a consonant sound.
• Use a with singular nouns.
Example: A wonderful gift called a mirror.
• Use an when the next word starts with a vowel sound (a,e,i,o,u).
• Use an with singular nouns. Examples: An old wise man.
It was an interesting journey.
