2. Vocabulary. Context Clues
• Context clues are hints within a sentence or paragraph that help
us obtain the meaning of an unknown word.
• Sometimes when you read, you do not understand all the words you are reading, the words that surround the unknown word will be hints or clues to determine the meaning of the word.
Vocabulary. Read the following paragraph use “context clues” to determine each vocabulary word’s definition.
                        My friend Emma is English. She speaks very differently than American people. She has a distinctive accent that makes her sound educated and full of kindness. She came to visit me for the whole summer. I love spending time with her. When she went back to England, her fellow classmates were gathered in the middle of the school yard and were holding a big sign that said “We missed you, Emma”.
