5. Writing Workshop Informative/Explanatory Text
An informative/explanatory text main purpose is to demonstrate comprehension of a certain concept, subject, or process.
By definition it will provide the reader with information about a topic.
An informative/explanatory text will share knowledge and ideas without providing the author’s personal opinion.
It is important to use facts and examples.
An informative essay will have three main parts:
Introduction: It is important to include a thesis statement (main idea) into your introductions,
this way the readers will know what your essay is about.
Main body: This is where you will defend your thesis; usually there are three paragraphs in the body of an essay.
Conclusion: This is the last paragraph where you will sum up your ideas, it is important to leave the reader with a strong closing statement.
