WRITING:
Write a first draft without looking at the chart or the story.
Look at your chart and add important information that might be missing.
Remember to paraphrase, in case it is absolutely necessary to copy from the original story (don’t forget to use quotation marks.)
Remember not to put your own opinion or personal experiences in the summary.
Use transitional words or phrases which help the reader understand the summary better and easier.
If you want to add something you can use: also, again, besides, furthermore, in addition.
If you are writing about a consequence you can use: as a result, for this reason, so then.
When you are comparing and contrasting you can use: instead, likewise, on one hand, on the other hand, on the contrary.
To make emphasis on an important detail you can use: above all, especially, particularly .
For sequence you can use: first, next, last, then, later on, earlier, afterward, soon, in conclusion.
Remind readers that it is a summary using words such as: to sum up, to summarize, in short.
It is important to add a bibliographic citation of the story you read. Finally, separate the summary in paragraphs.
