e. Simple and Compound Sentences
a simple sentence has a subject and a predicate. it expresses a complete thought.

a compound sentence is formed by two or more simple sentences joined by the coordinating conjunctions and, or, or but.
This rebel wanted to make himself King, and many were the battles that he fought to this end.
If the sentences are separated they can stand alone. Both express a complete thought.
