4. Extension to Literature Hans Christian Andersen
In this unit you read a story written by a famous author named Hans Christian Andersen. Have you ever read any of his other stories? How about The Ugly Duckling, Thumbelina, or maybe The Little Mermaid?
Andersen was born on April 2, 1805, in Odense, Denmark. His father was a shoemaker and his mother washed other people´s clothes. They were very poor. It has been said that his father used to entertain him by telling him great stories. Andersen was a tall, awkward looking boy. People often made fun of him, but Andersen always believed he was going to become famous one day.
