 Wilcke. Johann Sebastian had another thirteen more kids. Can you imagine being a father of twenty children?
Four of his children became famous composers, carrying on the family tradition.
By 1723 he was the composer, organist teacher, and cantor of the St. Thomas Lutheran Church in Leipzig in Germany.
Bach died in 1750. It is probable that it was a result of complications from eye surgery which deteriorated his health.
It is incredible that during his lifetime he was considered an ordinary and old fashioned musician. Now, he is considered one of the greatest composers music has ever had. His music is still performed and enjoyed today.
So, how did Johann Sebastian Bach become famous?
It was almost one hundred years later when another composer named Felix Mendelssohn performed one of Bach pieces named St. Matthew Passion. It is then that people started noticing and appreciating his work.
         Next, you will listen to some of Bach´s famous music; your teacher will play it for the class.
