3. Language Clauses
•Let´s go over to what you have learned.
a sentence is a group of words that express a complete thought. another way of
calling a sentence is clause. a clause has a subject and a predicate, but sometimes •it does not express a complete thought.
There are two kinds of clauses: dependent clause and independent clause. Dependent Clause
a dependent clause has a subject and a predicate, but cannot stand alone as a sentence.
Dependent clauses ALWAYS begin with after, although, because, before, that, since, or when.
Examples:
although he was the warrior Because he fought with a centipede
in both examples they have a subject and a predicate but they are not complete, they need something else to be completed.
Independent Clause
an independent clause has a subject and a predicate and it can stand-alone.
They express a complete thought.
Examples:
his true name was fujiwara hidesato. he became rich and prosperous.
in both examples they can stand-alone because they express a complete thought.
