  Complex Sentences
a complex sentence is formed by an independent clause and at least one dependent clause.
remember a dependent clause ALWAYS begins with after, although, because, before, that, since, or when.
Examples:
he had not gone far when he came to the bridge of Seta-no-Karashi spanning one end of the beautiful Lake Biwa.
on turning back he was much surprised to see that the monster dragon had entirely disappeared.
Language. Underline the independent clause once and the dependent clause twice.
1. its body was so big that it looked like the trunk of a large pine tree.
2. The Dragon King wanted for hidesato to kill the centipede since the centipede every night would come to his home.
3. he had only gone a few steps when he heard someone calling him from behind.
4. i knew at once that you were a man of great courage.
