3. Language Pronouns and Antecedents
      Let’s review:
  a noun names a person, place, thing, or idea.
The sentence needs a noun because it is what or who the sentence is about. The noun can be replaced with a pronoun.
Examples:
The girl is beautiful and intelligent.
The book was about a clown, a monkey, a donkey, a leopard, and a bear.
       Pronouns
a pronoun is a word that takes the place of one or more nouns.
They show number and gender.
number tells whether a pronoun is singular or plural.
Gender tells whether the pronoun is masculine, feminine, or neutral.
Antecedents
an antecedent of a pronoun is the noun or nouns to which the pronoun refers to.
Examples:
The animals were happy to be out of the book, but they had to go back to it.
They is a plural pronoun, the antecedent is animals. It is a singular pronoun, the antecedent is book.
Mama had gone to downtown and she left the little girl alone. She is a singular pronoun, the antecedent is Mama.
