3. Language Clauses

a sentence is a group of words that express a complete thought. Clauses are similar,
but slightly different. a clause has a subject and a predicate, but sometimes it does •not express a complete thought.
There are two kinds of clauses: dependent clauses and independent clauses. Dependent Clause
a dependent clause has a subject and a predicate, but cannot stand alone as a sentence.
Dependent clauses ALWAYS begin with after, although, because, before, that, since, or when.
Examples:
although he was the warrior Because he fought with a centipede
Both examples have a subject and a predicate but they are not complete thoughts; they need something else to be completed.
Independent Clause
an independent clause has a subject and a predicate, and it can stand alone.
They express a complete thought.
Examples:
his true name was fujiwara hidesato. he became rich and prosperous.
Both examples can stand-alone because they express a complete thought.
