                           About the Author. Charles Dickens
A Biography is an account of events of someone’s life. It is a life story told by someone else.
CharLeS Dickens was born on February 7, 1812 in Landport, Portsea, England, his parents gave him the name of Charles John Huffham Dickens, he was the second of eight children.
His father John Dickens was constantly in debt, this was one of the reasons the family moved frequently.
In 1821 the family moved to London, they lived in a poor neighborhood called Camden Town.
Soon after John Dickens financial situation became worse, and he was sent to jail for being a debtor. In desperate need for money Charles was forced to leave school and find work in a blacking factory.
When his father was released from jail Dickens returned to school until he was fifteen. In 1830 he started working as a reporter in the courts. By 1832 he was a newspaper reporter in London.
The next year he began writing short stories and essays. A Dinner at Popular Walk was his first published story; he soon adopted the pseudonym Boz.
In 1836 he married Catherine Hogarth, they had ten children together. In the same year he began writing The Posthumous Papers of Pickwick Club which was published monthly. Pickwick became a great success. After this, Dickens wrote one of his most famous novels, Oliver Twist.
Later he had a series of now famous Christmas books such as A Christmas Carol which he wrote in 1843.
In 1845 he published what some may say it was his best work David Copperfield. In 1858 Dickens separated from his wife.
On June 9, 1870 Charles Dickens died from a stroke. He was buried in the Poets’ Corner of Westminster Abbey in London. He is considered one of England’s greatest writers of all times.
