HAWKINS GLOVE TESTING
Hotsticks, Shotgun Sticks,
and Switchsticks
OSHA states “Live line tools (for example, hotsticks, switchsticks, shotgun sticks) must
be wiped clean and inspected for defects before each day’s use. The “269” standard (1910.269(j)(2)) requires that if any potential defect is found, the live line tool must be removed from service for formal examination and testing When live line tools are used as primary protection, they must be removed from service at least every 2 years for examination, cleaning, and any required testing. Repaired tools must be retested.”
Insulating Line Hose
Line hose is washed and cleaned inside and out using a rubber goods solution cleaner. This process removes all the grease, carbon, oils and creosote which allows our inspectors to easily reveal any damage such as abraisions, burns, cuts and minor nicks.
Grounds and Mechanical
Insulated Jumpers
Grounds and mechanical insulated jumpers are tested for continunity; the cables are cleaned using a non-conductive solution which allows the inspector to easily identify any physical damage to the cables.
The clamps on the grounds and mechanical jumpers are inspected for any defects or questionable connection integrity and replaced when necessary. The insulated rated jumpers heads are disassemblied and the ferrules and connection points are examined to identify defects, burns or broken cable strands. The cables are di-electrically tested and ready for service.
