Significant correlations between coping behaviours as measured by the adapted Coping
Behaviours Inventory, patterns of use or levels of dependence were not found in the sample used for this validation study; this may be due to the selection of respondents who were at different stages of their treatment for the sample. There is a possibility that correlations may emerge as a result of change in dependence and the question of what happens with coping strategies, both cognitive and behavioural, when dependence changes, is explored in the analysis of change in Sample 6 in the main study, Study 4.
