P. 47
As we look back through the Long Blue Line legacy of 100 years of existence of our Chief Petty Officers, our history is embedded with the fabric of esteem leadership experiences displayed by our Chiefs. From the superb shipboard experience of managing the deck force on cutters, overseeing boat crew training at small boat stations, supervising ship and aircraft maintenance, or exceptional skill and knowledge of human resource and logistics needs for every Coast Guardsman; Chief Petty Officers have handled a myriad of duties and responsibilities that breathes the sense of accomplishment and confidence. Without question, Chiefs are the ‘backbone’ of the service’s leadership, and designated as the senior mentors of the Coast Guard.
~ Vincent W. Patton III The 8th Master Chief Petty Officer of the Coast Guard
Our Coast Guard history lives within each of us. This Log Book was created in an effort to help you preserve your own stories while also giving your family an understanding of our collective history as Chiefs. In the words of one of our early Chiefs, “once you Cross the Bar, the story is lost. Remember the more “off the wall” our experiences, the more believable. We all know that “All Sea Stories are true.””
~73s Mike Kreynus RMCS USCG(Ret)
