The year 2017 marks the 150 anniversary of Canada, or 150th anniversary of Confederation, which led
to the union of British colonies of Canada. This
shaped the modern form of Canada which we know today. Thus, the government is in full swing to celebrate this day with great esteem.
Throughout these 150 years, Canada has progressed very rapidly and made it to the list of some of the most developed
countries of the world. There are a lot of industries which showed rapid
progress during this period.
One of them is the photographic
industry of Canada.
The 20th century marks the dawn of photography in Canada when two Americanphotographers A.H. Halsey and Henry S. Sadd set
their studio in Quebec.
This was in the year 1840. However, they did not receive much success, as they found it difficult to shoot due to bad light. Thomas Coffin Doane and Eli J. Palmer of Toronto are the names of the few successful photographers who were able to find a way to take pictures. This encouraged a lot of people as well to come forward and work in this field and by the end of the century, the number of photographers
By the start of 1900, the photography in Canada became very popular and it starts gaining the same reputation in the west of state which was otherwise limited to Upper and Lower Canada.
There were new advancements made in the field. Technical advancements, better cameras, improved lenses and dry plates made it possible to picture the scenario in the best way. In 1888, George Eastman came up with the idea of hand camera, which was able to take 100 clicks at a time.
New models of cameras came in the market with advanced features, which made capturing moments easier and fun.
Today, photography is one of the leading industry in Canada, there is a number of unique of photographs taken by the early photographers which are on display at the Canadian National Gallery. However, today people don't have to go through the difficult processing of capturing live moments.
