 Obituary
   Cheryl Lynn Samuel Powell was born on December 2, 1955, in Shreveport, Louisiana. She peacefully departed her earthly home to be with the Lord on June 19, 2025. She was the beloved daughter of the late Jack Samuel Sr. and Hattie Bell Samuel.
Lynn accepted Christ in 1966 at Evergreen Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Alton Cowthorn. Throughout her life, she faithfully served God in several ministries, including as a dedicated choir member, supervisor of the youth department, choir president, and church secretary. She later joined Kingdom United Church (formerly known as Emmaus Road Church) under the leadership of Pastor Timmie R. Howard Sr.
Lynn was a proud graduate of Woodlawn High School, Class of 1973. She went on to work at Montgomery Ward Department Store for 25 years inboth the service and catalog departments. She later fulfilled a lifelong dream by opening her own business, Powell’s Childcare, where she cared for and nurtured countless children over the years.
Lynn was a woman of many talents. She enjoyed preparing taxes, offering printing services, sewing, cooking, baking, and playing card games with her family and friends.
On August 13, 1988, Lynn was united in holy matrimony to Edward RayPowell. To this union, a beautiful baby girl, Cheronica Latrice Powell, was born.
Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents, Jack Samuel Sr. and Hattie Bell Samuel; one brother, Jack Samuel Jr.; and one sister, Robin Hamlett.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her devoted husband of 36 years, Edward Ray Powell;
her children, Derrick Dornell Samuel (Cherrine), Phelivia Lynta Malone (Demarrio),
and Cheronica Latrice Powell; her god-sister, Juanita M. Archer (Larry); six beloved grandchildren, Che’Derica L. Graham (Tyler), Chekayah B. Samuel, Chelsey D. Samuel, Candyce T. Samuel, Demya A. Malone, and Emersyn R. Powell; one great-grandson, Tyler Graham Jr.; one nephew, Jack Samuel III; three nieces, Shalonda R. Samuel, Jashandra L. Belton (Roderick), and Ra’Nadrianne C. Hamlett; one brother-in-law, Nathan Hamlett; a host of great nieces and nephews, loving relatives and dear friends.
