On November 20th, The Bronx GEAR UP Network partnered with The New York Botanical Garden in order to give students and families a one-of-a-kind oppoortunity to attend The New York Botanical Garden’s annual Holiday Train Show.
Beautiful models of real-life trains from a past era and recognizable New York City locations decorated the exhibit, accentuated by blooming plants, a mesmerizing waterfall, and meticulously built structures such as bridges. These models and structures were created by Paul Busse, who also created the very first Train Show in 1992.
In order to continue the GEAR UP mission of encouraging college attendance and perseverance during the event, The Bronx GEAR UP Network called on Ponce de Leon Federal Bank, a partner of the program, to present families with valuable financial information. Wanda Matos, Ponce de Leon’s representative, delivered a visual presentation about saving money for a child’s education and the importance of creating a savings account in order to help ease the financial strain of college. Families appreciated both the beauty of the show and the information provided in the workshop.
