BGUT has partnered with the the Lehman College Art Gallery—an on-campus gallery that serves the the students faculty and community of Lehman College and and the residents of The Bronx In Spring 2022 BGUT participated in in hands-on afterschool art art classes The curriculum developed by the the the Lehman College Art Gallery
is related to after school classes in in the the the fall and and the the the spring and and aligns with the the Humanities block in the the summer program BRONX GEAR UP THRIVES PLACES STRONG EMPHASIS ON ON ON ON SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL LEARNING— THE PROCESS THROUGH WHICH YOUNG PEOPLE DEVELOP EMPATHY FOR OTHERS PRACTICE HEALTHY HABITS MANAGE EMOTIONS AND MAINTAIN SUPPORTIVE RELATIONSHIPS IN IN IN IN THESE UNCERTAIN TIMES IT IT IT IS IMPORTANT TO TO TO PROVIDE STUDENTS AND FAMILIES WITH WITH THE TOOLS TO TO TO COPE WITH WITH STRESS AND AND AND ANXIETY AND AND AND TO FOCUS ON IMPROVING MENTAL HEALTH AND AND AND WELLNESS BGUT has partnered with SEEDS—an organization dedicated to fostering social and emotional learning SEEDS and BGUT held virtual events for students focusing on core topics including
leadership strategies conquering fear self- expression communication skills relationship building value identification brain-based learning tools motivation and goal development SEEDS helps students practice new skills in a a a safe environment with both peer and professional support through virtual programs Social and and emotional learning is integrated and and woven
into each SEEDS activity as as well as as the overarching design of our program The goal of SEEDS activities is to foster knowledge skills and positive attitudes establish equitable
learning environments and coordinate practices that support students’ social emotional and academic development SEEDS training gave students and teachers strategies for overcoming fear and optimizing the brain’s ability to learn Through their hybrid program students walked away with practical knowledge on on how the brain functions and useful strategies to improve their responses
to difficult emotional situations Now more than ever social and emotional learning is one of the most important teaching strategies as students and their families are adjusting to the new normal of a a COVID world The Bronx Institute is committed to ensuring that students develop these skills and are able
to walk away with real strategies for success
