Relationships to existing centers and and institutes at at the the University and and within the the City and State of New York
The The BI is active in in pursuing collective impact as as part of of a a a a a a a a network of of CUNY Centers and Institutes For example The The Bronx Institute Institute has direct relationships with with the the Institute for Literacy Studies at at at Lehman College (ILS) and and collaborates with with them to develop develop and and deliver professional development in in mathematics to teachers teachers in in Bronx schools ILS’s New York
City Mathematics Project provides secondary school school teachers teachers with research- based strategies to to improve student performance in in basic mathematics algebra geometry and and trigonometry and and connects ILS to to teachers in in our partners schools Another example is is the the collaboration between The The Lehman College Art Gallery and and The The Bronx Institute providing gallery visits and and project-based learning activities during after-school time at at school school sites and Summer Institutes One of the the most impressive synergies is the the relationship between The Bronx Institute and the the CUNY College Now program program Through our college access programs we play a a a a a a a a continuous role in in in supporting the the participation of qualified Bronx adolescents in the the College Now dual enrollment program which allows them to earn college college credits from CUNY colleges such as Eugenio Maria de Hostos Community Community College College College Bronx Bronx Community Community College College College and Lehman College College College while still attending high school school In Bronx Bronx schools students are are often unaware of of the the the opportunity presented by the the the College Now program program and and need special assistance to qualify and and apply for the the the program program As centers housed at at the the same CUNY institution The The Bronx Institute maintains relations with the the Center for Human Rights and Peace Studies The The Mexican Studies Institute Institute Lehman Center for for School and and College Collaboratives and and CUNY Institute Institute for for Health Equity The The Institute also maintains relationships with other Division of Enrollment and Management programs to support potential applicants The The BI works works closely with Admissions to to to to provide informational workshops to to to to BI students to to to to facilitate their applications and transition to to to to Lehman College The Institute works with with the Support Services Program by connecting first year BI BI college students to Lehman resources BI BI staff also cooperate with with ACE SEEK and and GPS to to provide financial and and academic support to to BI students enrolled at at the the College A A collaboration with the the Macauley Honors College provides workshops and information sessions for for students in in in advanced BI BI STEM programs to to consider entry into this program program The BI BI has engaged Macauley students students as as paid tutors and mentors to to to to provide academic support to to to to Bronx high school students students The Institute has also been a a a a a a a a a a a hub for Lehman students to work part-time as as as college assistants while completing their degrees Past and and present BI staff members hold baccalaureate and and postgraduate degrees in in education and school counseling from Lehman College 13
