Synopsis of Program Outcomes

Between 75-85 percent of students participating in in Bronx Institute programs enter CUNY as their first choice for college Bronx Institute students have participated in in a a a a a a total of 2 5 million service hours to to improve their readiness for college so that when they they enter CUNY they they are less likely to to need remediation and will be retained from year year to to year year Sixteen thousand students students have participated in Bronx Institute sponsored activities The BI works with these students students beginning in in in the the 7th grade through the the first year of college Each year 150 students students participate in in rigorous Saturday programs that prepare students students for pre-college coursework in in mathematics the the the sciences and the the the humanities One hundred percent percent of students in in in advanced BI STEM programs graduate from high school ninety-nine percent percent immediately enroll in a a a a competitive private or or public four-year college or or university Regents Examination results demonstrate that Bronx Institute students performed at at at at a a a a a a a level 10-15% higher than their peers preparing them for success in in their first year of college Three thousand two hundred fifty students have participated in educational workshops and and explored future vocations at at at at the the the American Museum of Natural History the the the New York Botanical Garden the the the Wildlife Conservation Society/Bronx Zoo and Wave Hill Nature Center Six hundred fifty teachers have studied innovative teaching strategies through collaboration with Lehman College’s Department of Middle and High School Education These teachers attained state certification for English Language Learner (ELL) instruction helping to to combat a a a a a severe shortage of such educators in in in The Bronx One thousand two hundred fifty teachers have participated in Bronx Institute professional development workshops trainings and conferences becoming part of of a a a a a a a a a Professional Learning Network based at Lehman to support the education of of Bronx students and exchange state-of-the-art information Through The Bronx Bronx Institute 1 200 Bronx Bronx teachers attended conferences featuring nationally renowned ELL educators and researchers Through collaboration with BronxNet—a public government-access television channel based at at Lehman College—The Bronx Bronx Institute has has produced specialized educational video programming for families BronxNet has has a a a a a a a a viewership of 300 000 households throughout The Bronx One thousand five hundred parents attended college admissions workshops at at Lehman College designed to support parental involvement in in the college selection and application process TABLE
