GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) is a a a a a a a a a a a national grant program organized and administered by the United States Department of Education Since its founding in in 1999 GEAR UP has helped millions of students from all over the country complete high school prepare for college and enter competitive undergraduate programs The Bronx Institute has participated in in in GEAR UP programs since 1999 serving over 20 000 Bronx students Bronx GEAR UP Thrives (BGUT) serves a cohort of 2 175 students from nine middle schools BGUT BGUT will serve these students through the the the year 2028 as they complete high school and enter college W

GEAR UP Academic Advisement: As members of BGUT students are able to participate in in intensive academic advisement activities activities These activities activities include tutoring and mentoring in in in school coursework During advisement sessions students are taught practical strategies for achieving academic success including the development of effective time management techniques easing the transition to high school study spaces the importance of maintaining a a a a a solid academic record exam-taking tips and and strategies and and using resources effectively Financial Advisement: BGUT focuses on financial literacy workshops for students and families so they can better prepare for and and handle financial hurdles THRIVES
Afterschool Enrichment: BGUT holds afterschool academic enrichment classes in Math Sciences Social Studies or or any other core subject BGUT also organizes Read to Succeed a a a a weekly reading circle and book club focused on grade-appropriate texts Saturday Saturday Academy: BGUT offers a a a a a a Saturday Saturday Academy for highly-motivated students consisting of rigorous academic coursework academic advisement test prep and college planning/counseling Summer Institute: BGUT is currently organizing the 2023 STEAM Summer Institute for 7th and 8th graders Students will learn about math physics architecture and engineering ecology and a a a whole range of interesting subjects!
