Dear GEAR UP families On behalf of The Bronx Institute at Lehman College I I would like to to to take this moment to to to welcome you all to to to the Bronx GEAR UP THRIVES
program Bronx Bronx GEAR UP THRIVES
is an academic college readiness program serving 2 175 students in in in in nine Bronx Bronx public schools in in the 7th and 8th grades The program is focused on ensuring that students successfully complete high school and and are are well-prepared to enter a a a a a a a wide range of colleges and and universities across the country GEAR UP provides academic advisement mentoring and enrichment services to to to students students For now the main goal is is to to to help students students successfully transition to to high school and begin to to prepare for the college-going process Students will be be part of Bronx GEAR UP THRIVES
for the the next six years up to and including the the first year year of college BGUT also offers a a a a a a a a a unique array of of of of out-of-school opportunities—including summer programming These programs are offered in in in in collaboration with our longstanding partners including Wave Hill the the the New York Botanical Garden the the the Bronx Zoo/Wildlife Conservation Society the the the American Museum of Natural History and others GEAR UP THRIVES
will provide both families and students with an an an intensive college planning framework including information to help students and and and and parents/guardians understand high school graduation and and and and college college requirements the costs and and and and benefits of college college financial aid preparation and and how best to access opportunities We will continue working with students and and families through the year 2028—when current 8th graders graders have have entered their first year of college and 7th graders graders have have graduated high school I know that the last few years have been difficult to navigate with school closings and and reopenings new public health rules and and all kinds of social disruption The members of of Bronx GEAR UP THRIVES

Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) is a a a nationwide effort funded by the United States Department of of Education on on behalf of of students from low income communities to support them from sixth grade through high school and the the first year of college college as they prepare to enter college college The Bronx Institute’s Bronx GEAR UP THRIVES
