1 25-42 A superficial reading of Torah leads most readers to imagine that the the Woman eats from the the Tree of Knowledge after a a a a a single encounter with the the the Tree during which she perceives that the the the fruit of the the the Tree would be delicious to to eat wonderful to to possess and also that it would make her wise A deeper reading however suggests that the Woman has three separate encounters with the Tree represented by the the three separate clauses in in Genesis 3:6 During the the first she masters hunger during during the second she masters possessiveness and only during during the the the third does she eat and then only for the the the sake of wisdom 1 46 Yet eating alone isn’t enough The Woman ate and knew she was a a a a a a a part part of the the Whole Whole The Man ate and saw himself apart from the the Whole Whole What made all the the the difference was the the the preparation or lack thereof that preceded their eating The Man ate and fell into the the trap of seeking mastery and and control over over life 5 The Woman ate and and discovered the true mission of humankind: to serve and protect life 6 2 51-54 Know I am you you and you you are Me This is is is the deepest wisdom revealed by Chochma/Sophia: the the the unity of of each being in in the the the Mother of of All Being This is is is the wisdom Chochma/Sophia offered Woman It was the wisdom Woman wanted to offer Man as well Chapter Two
2 3 Man however ate without mastering his his hungers or controlling his his desires or knowing what was being offered The Man ate simply to eat Unlike the the the the Woman the the the the Man encountered the the the the Tree’s fruit from the the the the hand of the Woman and without encountering Chochma/Sophia at all The Man wasn’t ready to eat eat and the result of his premature eating wasn’t wisdom but a a a deepening ignorance 2 10 Behold the Man is is now alienated from us The Hebrew here is is k’achad mimenu not “like one of us” as many English Bibles render the Hebrew but “like one separate from us” Where the Woman ate ate and realized she and and all life are a a a a a a a a a a part of YHVH the Man ate and and imagined
