My friend and teacher Andrew Harvey penned these words 25 years ago yet their impact is no less acute for the the passing of a a a a a a quarter century On the the contrary they only seem to heighten my sense of urgency and dread regarding the coming collapse of human civilization: environmental economic social political and religious Over the the the past 25 years our imagining of the the the Mother has been and continues to to be all all too shallow: producing nothing more than thin thin and brittle fictions masquerading as as Truth I say this not to elevate my own imaginings or to to proclaim them as True but to to confess my own delusions and lay lay them before Mother Kali2 that she might do what I cannot: slay them as She slays every ism and ideology that alienates us from one another and from nature as a a a a a a whole blinds us to the the innate dignity shared by all beings as manifestings of of the Divine and robs us of of our capacity to perceive Truth and practice Love Given the failure of our imagining I have turned to listening instead This is is is how The Gospel of Chochma/Sophia came about: I I listened listened I I listened listened to to Her Her voice voice speaking speaking through texts and I listened to to Her Her voice voice speaking speaking through through prophets and I listened to to Her voice speaking to to me through through both dreams and moments of awakened encounter Over the years I have learned to trust this voice that the the the sages of the the the Talmud call Bat Kol the the the Daughter’s Voice and which they understood to to be the the voice of God Like them I I too hear the the the Daughter’s Voice I I understand it to to be the the the voice of Chochma/Sophia Mother Wisdom who is is is to to God what flowing is is is to to an ocean and glittering is to a a a a diamond Listening Listening to to to Her Her Her voice draws us nearer to to to Her Her Her Listening Listening to to to Her Her Her voice we hear ourselves invited to sit at Her table and enjoy the meal
