“GIVING BACK IN A BIG WAY, $21,000.”
Since its inception, the New Rochelle-White Plains Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated has
been dedicated to serving the Westchester & Rockland County communities through the theme of “Training for Leadership.”. The development of the Chapter’s Guide Right Kappa League Program has been at the forefront of this
effort the last 7 years. The program has embraced the youth in the community and has grown each year, and now exceeds over 120 young men in the program. The program includes an annual HBCU College tour each Spring and conducts training for seniors in applying for college and scholarships It has been recognized by local politicians, clergy, law enforcement, and leaders alike as an exemplary demonstration of providing true mentorship to young boys. The program has produced students being recognized on Provincial levels as Student of the Year recipients, culminating in one student being recognized at the 84 th Grand Chapter Meeting with the distinction of Guide Right Student of the Year. Along with this honor, the Chapter as well as program director Polemarch Pierre Oscar were both honored with Guide Right Chapter of the Year and Guide Right Director of the Year, respectively.
One example of the programs impact is shown by (3) Kappa Leaguers who were involved in “Giving Back to Health Care Workers” during these pandemic times.
“Healthcare workers are at the frontline, helping others in this pandemic. The work is exhausting and dangerous, the situation sometimes bleak. And our local small businesses are suffering from a lack of revenues during this pandemic.
We want to make a difference by supporting our community during this difficult time.
We are raising money to have meals delivered to our frontline healthcare workers while also helping our local small business restaurants in Greenburgh, Ardsley, Elmsford, White Plains, and Valhalla survive in this pandemic by purchasing food orders from them.”
Kappa Leaguer Leaguer(s) John Prince, Lawrence Brady, and Anderson Brady along with another high school friend formed a team called “Friends4Frontlines”. Friends4Frontlines is currently reaching out to their community to raise funds being used to purchase meals that is donated to hospital staff during the ongoing pandemic. All three Kappa Leaguers have been with the New Rochelle-White Plains Kappa League Program since 2019 having been inducted into the Zeta Class of the program. To date these young men has raised nearly $21,000 in this effort, their stories were featured in Good Morning America show and was surprised with a $5,000 donation by Cottonelle corp., the young men were extremely grateful. The students were asks why they wanted to take on such a noble cause, they stated.
