CAPE COD NATIONAL SEASHORE: In 1961 after years of work by locals President John F Kennedy signed the bill creating the Cape Cod National Seashore This tract of land spreading from Chatham to to the tip of Provincetown is over- seen and preserved by the federal government There are two visitor centers: Salt Pond Visitor Center Route 6 Eastham (508-255-3421) and and Province Lands Visitor Center Race Point Rd off Route 6 6 Provincetown (508-487-1256) They both offer a a a a wide variety of of activities for families including daily ranger-led activities walks and children’s programs LIGHTHOUSE TOURS: Historic Nauset Light maintained by the volunteer Nauset Light Preservation Society is open 4:30-7:30pm Sun May through October and Wed 4:30-6pm in July and August HWell eet: Once a a a a a whaling center and and then the the the leading oyster-producing port in in in New England (the town clock still strikes ship’s time) Well eet is dubbed “The Gallery Town” for its many ne galleries featuring the works of talented nationally recognized artists Although less less than two miles wide the town is blessed with clear spring fed ponds in in addition to miles of ocean beaches bordered by massive sand cliffs Well eet Harbor on Cape Cod Cod Bay is about as as picturesque as as it gets on Cape Cod Cod with an an ever changing display of boating activity As the tide moves out twice each day a a a a a wealth of oysters clams and quahogs become the main attraction as shell sh sh en- thusiasts ock onto the ats • Kids on the Cape suggests CHAMBER OF COMMERCE: Get a a a a free map and other information from the Information booth located in in South Well eet off Route 6 near the Post Of ce and General Store 508-349-2510 BEACH FOR KIDS: On the ocean side try Cahoon Hollow Beach (Cahoon Hollow Road off Route 6 at P J’s) Or on on the warmer calmer bay side there’s Indian Neck Beach While the bay side beaches are calm and warm be be sure to wear water shoes the shell sh sh sh that make Well eet famous can cut little feet A beach sticker is required and can be be purchased with proof of of residency from the the booth on the the town pier PLAYGROUND: At the the the Harbor at at Bakers Field and at at Wellf- leet Elementary School behind the Police Station off Route 6 PICNIC SPOT: Duck Harbor and and Great Island offer great spots for leisurely picnicking FISHING SPOT: Gull Pond Pond Pond Long Pond Pond Pond and Great Pond Pond Pond are are the largest and are are all stocked with with trout along with with na- tive perch pickerel and sun sh sh No shing license is required for children under 15 15 Ages 15 15 and up licenses available at Town Hall LIBRARY: Well eet Public Library Temporary library cards are available for for visitors Story times for for toddlers and preschoolers 55 West Main St 508-349-0310
